Chapter 8

Daisy couldn't believe how tired her body felt. Her mind was alert and unyielding, but her muscles felt as if they had just run a triathlon. After all this was over, she needed a vacation. A real vacation where she could relax. Maybe on a beach sipping Pina Coladas. Or a staycation where she could lie around watching movies all day. That was if this ordeal ended well.

What if Nate couldn't figure out who was doing this? Then she would never get the chance to have a vacation. For all she knew, these guys would end up being successful, and she would take a permanent vacation in the ground. She knew it was a morbid thought, but the evidence was stacking against her. Nate was trying his best, but someone out there wanted her gone and had the resources to do it. The thought made her tremble.

They'd been driving in silence, and for the first time in her life, she didn't hate it. She didn't know what to say, didn't know anything. Well, except for the fact that Nate was on her side. At least she had that.

She looked over at him as he drove down the winding highway roads. He had a bit of scruff on his face. It gave him a roughness that added to his already rugged look. And his hair, perfect for running her fingers through while he kissed her the way he did back on the boat.

If they hadn't been interrupted what would’ve happened? She could feel the heat between her legs at the mere thought of his hands on her, lifting and caressing her bare flesh while his mouth worked magic. She knew his tongue could certainly work wonders but she wondered what his fingers could do if given enough time.

As if sensing her stare, he glanced over. “Everything okay, love?” Why did he have to keep calling her that? Every time he said love, a shiver of lust ran through her body. His eyes turned back to the road, but she knew if she didn't answer, he'd keep at it until she did.

“Yeah.” She heard the sexy rasp in her voice and hoped it didn't give away her thoughts. Just her luck that he'd ask at the exact moment she was thinking about his kiss. The idea of it alone sent a pulse through her body.

“I know this has been a long few days, but we are going to figure this out.” His words brought the danger back to the forefront of her mind. The whole reason they were together.

“Nate, what if we don't figure out what’s going on or who's doing this?” She hadn't meant to ask, but she needed to know what happened if they didn't find out who was doing this. What if she was never safe?

She saw his hands tighten on the wheel though his face remained calm. She was noticing his little tells. He worried about it too.

“That won't happen. Devon has some information for us. We will figure this out.
